9.29.10

We had a funny trip to the cabin last weekend. Me, Grant, Monet and my parents went up Saturday for one night. Chloe had cheer practice and sadly couldn't go. It was unbelievably gorgeous up there. The leaves were amazing. I was planning on taking some good photos with my camera... but realized I didn't have the SD card in... that was the first of a few problems. Soon after we arrived and right after taking this picture we realized the front tire was completely flat on our truck. A little scary because we were so far away and no one was around... but we decided to forget about it and go on a 4 wheeler ride.
My dad is notorious for two things one is UNDER exaggerating things... (nothing is ever a big deal) and two he never lets on how far or hard things are going to be. He says, "I have a cool ride to take you on. It's like an hour 1/2." Ok so here we are enjoying the cows on our nice ride.
Then we start to go down, down, down. We went down a few hills that I was really nervous about. There was one point where my parents took Monet, and honestly if she would have been on our 4 wheeler I would have turned around. I think they held her hostage on purpose.
So we made it to the bottom of the canyon and to the bottom of the river bed.
My dad, Grant and Monet cooled off by the water. It was hot. Really hot for being so high up in the mountains.
Notice how steep the mountain side is behind them... well that was the trail to get out of the bottom of the canyon. You know what happened on the way up that steep trail... my parents 4 wheeler died. Completely died.
So my mom and I took Monet and climbed a bit up the hill. Then the two boys, after abandoning the 4 wheeler at the bottom, rode up to meet us. It was too steep for all of us so Grant and I walked up to the top. I was hot. We hardly had any water. I almost took my jeans off I was that hot and tired...almost.
At the top all five us of got on my dads 4 wheeler... yes all five of us. And we rode and rode over an hour on that thing.
It was quite the family bonding time.
They rode through stuff like this.
While we took the baby and walked around it. Thank the heavens that 4 wheeler got us all the way back to the cabin because it would have been super scary to have been stuck walking out there.
We got back, tired and dirty. Monet got a little sink wash up and snuggled in her pjs to watch Toy Story.
Grant and my dad changed the tire. We had steaks and sat by the fire.
Monet's little face was sunburned and windburned and she was tired, but a little trooper none the less.

The next morning we were supposed to go fishing, my dad even bought Monet a Buzz Lightyear fishing rod that lights up. But plans were changed because my uncle and cousin came up to help rescue the abandoned 4 wheeler. So the boys went on a rescue mission which involved pushing, pulling, one 4 wheeler even took a a little tumble down the mountain. About 3 hours later they came back with the 4 wheeler. So we packed up and headed home.
...
It was funny. But fun. Completely gorgeous. Hopefully we can make it back before it starts to snow up there.

what an adventure! that sounds scary--and things are even scarier when you have a baby, it changes everything. i wish you had a picture of all 5 of you on the 4-wheeler. glad you're all okay and you didn't take your pants off! i just remembered a story about when we had first met mike's mom, we were up at deer creek and she got so hot she took her shirt off. i'll spare you the details but it was very uncomfortable!
