IT'S A GIRL!

12.22.08

For the record: 22 weeks.
...
We're going to find out what the baby is on Christmas eve. It's sealed in an envelope, wrapped in a sparkling box, underneath my parents tree.
...
We had the ultra sound last week. I had no idea what an amazing experience it would be. To see the little baby that's been inside me for 5 months, and to hear them say "it" is perfect, made us so happy and extremely grateful.

On my agenda today: homemade peppermint ice cream.
If you have an ice cream maker try this recipe it's super yummy.
Make the regular vanilla ice cream.
When it's almost finished take peppermint candy canes and grind them up.
Pour into vanilla ice cream with two drops of peppermint extract.

I'm dreaming of a good gingerbread cookie. Know where I can find one? Williams Sonoma has a cute igloo cake mold. Seems like a cute project for kids.
A white Christmas party... I'll remember that for next year.

Last night was scary. I woke up with a shooting pain above my stomach, below my chest. It was so bad I could hardly speak. I couldn't catch my breath and felt like I was going to black out. I was so hot and my body was convulsing. We called the hospital they said to come in right away. So at 3 am we raced to the ER. They admitted me into labor and delivery. Thankfully, luckily, gratefully, as I arrived the pain subsided. They checked the baby and everything seemed to be fine. We went home and the pain hasn't returned. They don't know what caused it. So I'm just laying low and being careful. But just wanted to report that every thing's OK.

Yesterday we went to my parents house to help them get ready for Christmas. My dad still can barely walk so he needed the boys to help. My mom is just starting to get her Christmas decorations up. What I love about her house is that it feels like walking into a magazine. It's so cozy and perfectly decorated. Every little area has something... for example... Her window in her pantry.
She was working on Chloe's room when I got there.
Garland adorned with vintage pink Santa's.
Chloe's night stand.
...
I love that my mom and I have two completely different styled houses. The fun thing is we shop for sweet, french - like things for her, and bright, fun things for me. It's perfect.
...
Maybe when she's all decorated I'll post more pictures of the house. The funny thing is she'd be so embarrassed if she knew I was doing this!

Cavallini & Co. make the cutest gift tags. They're glittery and nostalgic... everything a Christmas tag should be. I've seen them at Thanksgiving Point and Dear Lizzie if anyone is in the market.

I have to send a few gifts via mail this year and I found these adorable Nutcracker cookies. Seems like a good gift for people with kids.?. Williams Sonoma.com

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the shopping and wrapping. I love it.
The one lonely present under the tree. Of course it's for Chloe. She's the funnest to shop for.
...
If you're looking for cute embellishments for your gifts, go to Target. I found gold glitter snowflake ornaments, 4 for $1.00. Also I bought these small Christmas balls in bright colors to tie on as well. Cheap ways to make your gifts seem extra special.

My much anticipated maternity jeans arrived in the mail yesterday. After much searching I thought they were going to be perfect. They turned out to be a total bust. Too long, too big, too dark, too wide. So I believe it's dresses and leggings from here on out. I guess I know what I'll be asking for Christmas this year. I did a little browsing on Free People.com and found some cute ones. So if someone by the name of my hubby needs some ideas... here you go.... :)

Thanksgiving Weekend... This Thanksgiving we went to Manti to spend the Holiday with my dads side of the family.
...
Saturday my whole family plus the two labs, went to cut down Christmas trees.
Scout, the puppy, can only be controlled by Chloe. She had to get the pliers out of his mouth, which took quite a long time.

I never thought anyone could be more picky about Christmas tree hunting than my mom... but I had never seen Riley hunt for his own tree. It took those two forever to find the two best tree's on the mountain. I, on the other hand am so impatient I cut down the first one I see.
(me & my mom)
Besides the fact I had a terrible cold and had to wear leggings because I can't get any pair of jeans I own to button or zip. We had an awesome time. Freezing cold and all.
(*Side note on the maternity jean status... didn't have any in the store but they special ordered me a pair, so I'm still jean-less*)

Afterwards we went to this cute little diner in this small town I never knew existed. We pigged out on cheeseburgers, soda's and milkshakes.
Chloe, Wyatt & his girlfriend Lindsey

And Voila, our tree. A little Charlie Brown... but I still love it.

Well the day has come... I'm in dire need of maternity jeans. I can't even get the zipper closed anymore.

This weekend is the hunt for skinny maternity jeans. I'm going to start at Expected (thanks Whit) and hope I luck out. I usually wear kids jeans cause I'm so stinkin' short. I have a feeling this may not be easy... wish me luck. I'll let you know how it goes.

...

PS. At 17 1/2 weeks should I really even be showing? Well I am. I was in spandex and a tank after working out and Chloe looks at me and goes, "You're Huge!" My only response was, "Wait until April, you don't know what huge is."

Here's the deal, I'm very tired... We've been with my dad in the hospital all week. Yesterday he had to have a blood transfusion which took 8 hours. Afterwards he said he was done with the hospital, so we made my parents living room a hospital room and transported him there... hospital bed and all. He's doing better. Recovery is slow but moving. I've been running around like crazy all weekend so I'm going to take a minor blogging break. See ya in a few... Hayley.

Opinions.... I'm Christmas shopping for my mom (don't worry she doesn't get on this blog) and I found this necklace. It's by a Swedish designer, handmade and shipped from Paris, France. It's about $85.00 and I personally think it's very sweet.
...
Think this a good find?
...
Should I purchase?
...
I'm very indecisive on online orders. I never know what it's going to look like in person.

I've been thinking a little bit about decorating for Christmas. Last year we had just moved in and I didn't put up much more of an effort than the tree. I have these 12 Days of Christmas plates and want to hang them on the wall but I don't want to put holes in the wall. Does anyone have any plate hanging tips?

Every Christmas I want to order these polka dot sheets from Garnett Hill. Red and White dots seem so cute to wake up in every December morning.

For Those Who Are Wondering:

My dad went into have double knee replacement surgery on Monday morning. The surgery went smoothly. They were concerned about his heart condition, but there were no complications at all. They said his knees were completely shot. After football, skiing, biking and just everyday wear and tear there wasn't much of anything left. The Dr.'s were shocked with the amount of muscles in his thighs. They also said he has extremely hard bones... usually it takes one saw to get through two knees but they had to use two.
Monday after the surgery they gave him an epidural-like shot which numbed him from the waist down. Yesterday (Tuesday) I went in to see him about one o'clock and I've never seen him in such pain. He could hardly speak. He felt like the pain medication they had him on wasn't strong enough. He felt like his legs were on fire. He was nauseated and having a hard time eating. I stayed until about 5pm. Two physical therapists came in. They had him stand up and take a few steps. The pain on his face looked excruciating. I thought to myself, "A few months ago we were cheering him on during his one hundred mile mountain bike race and now he's standing there barely able to shuffle a few steps with a walker"... pretty crazy. I think he had a pretty bad night last night. They have his legs working on machines 3 hours each leg each day, so 6 hours total. They also have things pumping his feet to prevent blood clots. The Dr's said hardly anyone does two knees at one time. In the last year they've only seen 3 people do it. He'll be in the hospital until Thursday. It's going to be months of recovery but day by day he'll get through it. It will be a long winter without skiing, but I told him I'd hang out with him.

I was browsing on www.chicshack.net and found some sweet nurseries.

I like traditional, I like modern, I like French, I like English... somehow I'll have to figure out how to make it all work.

Christmas Tree Permits:
...
Friday morning, Christmas tree permits went on sale at Soldier Hollow. At 5:00am Grant and I went up to wait in line in the dark. They did it differently this year so we had some time to spare, so we drove up the canyon and found a little place to hang out.
We drank hot chocolate on the back of Grant's truck.
Then we hiked around a little.
We watched the sun come up.
We ate breakfast at Chicks Cafe.
...
Then we got our tree permits.
...
And Grant even let me listen to Christmas music the entire time.

So I feel like I've given myself a fair 50/50 chance at this boy or girl thing. I've only bought two baby things since we've been married... About four years ago I saw these baby girl shoes with my mom and couldn't pass them up.
Then last year in Vail I saw this Cowboy and Indian bag and thought I need it just as badly.
...
Now that I'm 15 weeks people are asking when I'm going to find out. The funny thing is, I kind of like the not knowing. I feel like once I find out my mind will be racing with nursery ideas, names and shopping trips. I like the excitement and the wonder... so with that said, we made the appointment for the week before Christmas... we figured what a little Christmas gift it will be... Then I'll have something to keep me busy through the long winter months.
...
P.S. I have no inclination about this baby. I want both so badly, I truly don't care. Grant however, thinks it's a girl and my mom thinks it's a boy...

I was browsing on Dominomag.com today to see what I could find, for fun, and I found this apartment. It's the creative director for J Crew's house. And I love it. Love the chandelier. And what is it about old fireplaces? They're the best decoration in any room.
Simple colors, interesting shapes...

Again, all you need is a sweet fireplace.
This little boy's room is adorable.
I'll have to put it in the "nursery rooms" file.
I guess anyone who gets free clothes from Jcrew should have a closet like this one.
